...is to build social awareness, confidence and self-esteem in children through the practice of social dance.
Through standards-based, in-school residencies, we use the vocabulary of ballroom dance to cultivate the positive feelings that are inherent in every child. The maturity necessary to dance together fosters respect, teamwork, confidence and a sense of joy and accomplishment, which we hope to bring to every child. Ballroom dance is the medium we use to nurture these qualities.
Dancing Classrooms Chicagoland works directly with 5th & 8th grade students in their schools. The program is a 10 week residency that meets twice per week, culminating in a showcase where every child performs. Audience members can include parents, the local community, lower grades, and school staff.
All students are then invited to continue their dance education at Heart & Sole Dance, where ongoing youth classes are offered throughout the school year and special workshops are available throughout the summer.
The Dancing Classrooms program is brought to this area by Heart & Sole Dance Foundation, a 501c3 arts organization. The program needs volunteers and financial supporters. If you are able to give of your time, or make a financial donation, please contact the HSDFoundation Director of Development, Lynzi Scholz (Volunteers@DancingClassroomsChicagoland.org), or call 708-532-6237.
